1. Name:
Lau
2. Age:
20
3. Location:
Toronto, Canada
4. Marital Status:
Single, and I would not have it any other way.
5. Zodiac Sign:
Aquarius
6. How you found us:
Via Samantha’s promotion on my friend’s list.
7. What is your favorite sound? / What is your least favorite sound?
Heavy bass / loud chewing, especially when the person does it with their mouth open
8. What smell do you love? / What smell do you hate?
The way it smells when you peel an orange / sour milk
9. What profession do you want to go into? / What profession would you avoid?
Nursing / teaching
10. Describe yourself in your own words.
I am fiercely independent. On most days there’s more than a good chance that I’m slightly sarcastic. My true loves are my cats (Micah, and until recently my dearly departed Miss Cleo) and music. I am loyal almost to a fault and will not tolerate anyone ragging on my friends without reason. I will also not tolerate stupidity. I have no interest in drama, if I have a problem with someone I tell them, straight up. I'm not a fan of fake people, either. A lot of people find me very blunt and out there, but I just don't like to beat around the bush.
11. What do you look for in a partner?
Honesty, and a sense of humour. It helps if you have incredible hair, too.
12. If you could change something about yourself, what would it be and why?
Not a single thing. I love myself, and if I changed one of the parts that is less than perfect it may affect one of the perfect parts.
13. What are some goals you want to accomplish in life?
Get my RN and move to Chile. Live in Manhattan for a while. Go back to Cape Town.
14. If you could be one person for a day, who would you be and why?
Someone very influential in government so I could make sure at least for one day, things went my way.
15. Who is your role model and why?
Um, I don’t really have “role models” in the typical sense. But I really admire Nelson Mandela. And… Angelina Jolie. She’s awesome.
16. Please give a full explanation of your opinion on four of the following topics. Please be specific in you reasoning....

i. Abortion 100% pro-choice. Even if it’s not right for me I have absolutely no right to tell someone what is right for them in their situation. I have even less right to legislate my own morality.
ii. Gay Marriage For it. Marriage is about love. It affects no one if I marry a woman, and if it does affect someone or their relationship… well their relationship was pretty weak to begin with, and they should probably get a life.
iii. Death Penalty Against it. I can see the merits, I really can. But we’re trying to solve violence with more violence when we cross that line, and no matter how you slice it that doesn’t make much sense.
iv. Abuse (physical, emotional, or mental) Is never okay. Although I think the “mental” in this section should have been sexual or something… isn’t emotional abuse and mental abuse the exact same thing? Anyway, abuse is wrong, always. There is never a reason to treat a fellow human being that way.
v. President Bush I’m sure he’s a very lovely man, one-on-one. But he makes bad decisions, which means he’s crap as a world leader.
vi. Teen Pregnancy Can be tragic, but it can work out for the best. My Mum was 17 when she had my brother, and we all turned out all right in the end.
vii. Teen Violence Violence is an awful thing no matter who is committing it.
viii. Separation between church and state (or lack there of) Should definitely exist. In Canada we’re doing pretty well with this concept. I can’t really speak for America, but from what I see there’s a lot more trouble with it. But I think it’s vital in a multicultural society.
ix. Censorship F*ck censorship! Haha, I think everyone has the right to say exactly what it is they want to say. Until what they want to say starts taking rights away from others.
x. Drugs/Alcohol I have a problem with neither. But drugs are tricky, and can be really really dangerous.
xi. Tony Blair He's British. Other than that, I really have very little to say about him.
xii. AIDS Epidemic Very passionate about this. I spent 3 months in Cape Town at an AIDS clinic before coming to University.
xiii. Israel and Palestine conflict I wish I could care more about this, but really I can't care about everything.
xiv. Homelessness According to my adolescence text book, teens are more likely to be homeless when they run away from home. It's very wise.
xv. Monarchy/Patriarchy vs. Democracy
xvi. War I really and truly believe that there is always another way.

17. Pick a passage/line/lyric from your favourite book/poem/movie/song, paste it here, analyze it and explain why it's important to you. "I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will fight tooth and nail for your right to say it."

This quotation means a lot to me because it reflects my world view. I really believe that everyone is equal, regardless of sexuality, religion, race or gender. We all have a right to be happy and ourselves, and we all have the right to our own opinion.
